Byens Haver: reimagining an entire neighborhood

In two exposed neighbourhoods in Roskilde, not a box supported Boligselskabet Sjælland in developing Byens Haver – a visionary project that rethinks how homes, health, and community spaces can promote well-being and social cohesion.

Approach
Byens Haver is grounded in the ambition to create a neighbourhood where architecture, urban space, and everyday life are closely interwoven to support health, inclusion, and long-term resilience. The approach focuses on designing for social balance and shared ownership – with flexible, future-proof solutions that can adapt over the next 30–50 years.

Through a collaborative process, we explore how the built environment can foster belonging, reduce inequality, and create the conditions for thriving local communities.

Impact
not a box lead the concept and partnership development, working with future scenarios, design thinking, and behavioural insights gleaned from facilitation of cross-sector workshops.

The resulting concept book will be published in early 2026 – inspiring new standards for sector-spanning innovation in the built environment.
