Byens Haver: future living, rooted in community

In two exposed neighbourhoods in Roskilde, not a box supports Boligselskabet Sjælland in developing Byens Haver – a visionary project that rethinks how homes, health, and community spaces can promote well-being and social cohesion.

Approach
Byens Haver is grounded in the ambition to create a neighbourhood where architecture, urban space, and everyday life are closely interwoven to support health, inclusion, and long-term resilience. The approach focuses on designing for social balance and shared ownership – with flexible, future-proof solutions that can adapt over the next 30–50 years.

Through a collaborative process, we explore how the built environment can foster belonging, reduce inequality, and create the conditions for thriving local communities.

Impact
We lead the concept and partnership development, working with future scenarios, design thinking, and behavioural insights. Our role includes preparing the vision and concept book, facilitating cross-sector workshops, and establishing research and funding partnerships.

A concept book will be published in autumn 2025 to guide the creation of a future health and community centre – and inspire new standards for public-sector innovation.
