Neuro North: Designing the Neurohospital of the future

Approach
To guide the transformation of Neuroenhed Nord, not a box led a two-phase process focused on vision, organisation, and financing. We explored current practices and future needs through close collaboration with the hospital, resulting in a concept book that defines the strategic and architectural direction for the new neuro-rehabilitation centre.

Our work included project leadership, facilitation, and the creation of partnerships with municipalities, cultural institutions, and civil society – ensuring the new hospital is rooted in both professional excellence and local life.

Essential to the scope of the project and its impact, the staff and management was included every step of the way in a true user-driven innovation process.

Impact
The concept book developed by not a box serves as a strategic and architectural compass for the future neuro-rehabilitation centre. It outlines principles and design concepts that prioritise the patient experience, staff wellbeing, and the needs of relatives and partners – all with a long-term perspective to ensure the hospital remains healing, relevant, and attractive for decades to come.

As a central component of the design competition brief, the concept book articulates the hospital’s foundational values and ambitions. It invites new interpretations and bold responses to the challenge of creating a state-of-the-art centre for neuro-rehabilitation.

With a strong focus on healing architecture and future-oriented organisation, the book is designed to be a lasting reference – guiding architects, builders, and users in shaping both the physical space and the culture within it.
